Planned water supply maintenance for 24 to 29 January 2026

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will conduct planned work in the identified area, which may result in water supply disruption. This critical maintenance work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected area are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.
Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers. This precaution does not guarantee all residents will have a water disruption, but it aims to ensure they are able to prepare in the event it does occur.
Planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:
Part of Maitland
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply in Voortrekker Road between Koeberg Road and Camp Road and possibly surrounding streets in Maitland from 09:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 27 January 2026. This shut-off will enable the maintenance team to safely reposition a valve in front of 164 Voortrekker Road, Maitland. The area will experience no water during this period.
Part of Wynberg
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to part of Wynberg from 08:30 until 19:30 on Tuesday, 27 January 2026. This shut-off will enable the maintenance team to safely connect the newly installed pipelines at the intersections of Bower Road and Silverlea Road, Orient Road and Silverlea Road and Wellington Avenue and Silverlea Road in Wynberg. These roads and possibly surrounding roads will experience no water during this period.
Part of Strand
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to Da Gama, Volsteedt, Bosman and Henning Streets and possibly surrounding streets in Strand from 09:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 27 January 2026. This shut-off will enable the maintenance team to safely install new valves in Bosman and Henning Streets between Broadway Boulevard and Aerodrome Street in Strand. The area will experience no water during this period. A water tanker will be located in the vicinity of Kwik Spar at the corner of Broadway Boulevard and Da Gama Street to provide water for domestic use during this period.
Part of Rondebosch
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to Rusacre Road, Stuart Road and possibly surrounding streets between Kromboom Road and Avenue De Mist in Rondebosch from 09:00 until 18:00 on Wednesday, 28 January 2026. This shut-off will enable the maintenance team to safely install a bypass on the water supply main in Rusacre Road to facilitate the pipe replacement project in the area. The area will experience no water during this period. A water tanker will provide water for domestic use during this period.
Gardens and Oranjezicht
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to Gardens and Oranjezicht from 08:00 until 14:00 on Tuesday, 27 January 2026. This test shut-off aims to determine the impact of the actual shut-off from 09:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 29 January 2026, when the bypass will be installed for the temporary water supply pipeline. The area will experience no water during this period.
Part of Gardens
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to Trek Road and Higgo Road (between Glencoe Road West and Higgo Crescent and possibly surrounding roads from 09:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, 27 January 2026 and to Somerseat Close and possibly surrounding streets in Gardens from 09:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 29 January 2026. These shut-offs will enable the maintenance team to safely connect the newly installed pipelines to the existing water supply infrastructure. These areas will experience no water during this period.
Planned fire hydrant servicing and replacements – Grassy Park and Lotus River
The City will be carrying out planned fire hydrant servicing and replacements in the streets listed below. During this time, water supply may be temporarily interrupted or water pressure may be reduced. Work will take place from 09:00 until 16:00 on the dates indicated.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions:
- Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
- All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
- Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
- For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

How residents are advised to prepare for planned water supply disruptions:
- Store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during this period.
- Keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
